About Us

The ARC Research Hub for CRitical Energy Separation maTerials (CREST Hub) is a national collaboration advancing the next generation of sustainable technologies for the extraction, processing, and recycling of critical energy materials.

Supported through an $8 million investment from the Australian Research Council (ARC), industry partners, and participating universities, the CREST Hub brings together leading researchers and industry experts to develop innovative solutions that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and strengthen Australia's clean energy future.

Our Mission

Our mission is to develop advanced separation materials and technologies that reduce costs, improve efficiency and enhance the sustainability of critical energy processes.

Research Areas

Our research spans several key areas:

  • Direct lithium extraction

  • Carbon dioxide capture

  • Recovery and reuse of battery metals

  • Critical mineral extraction and processing

  • Separation technologies for molecular energy carriers

  • Silicon metal production through molten salt electrowinning

  • Recovery of critical minerals from mining and industrial waste streams
