Our Research

hub overview.png

Figure 1: Overview of the path to closed loop energy carriers for CREST Hub. Initially, CREST will improve sustainability, and secondly reduce reliance on the initial production component in purple. Finally, CREST will target increased the circularity of these energy carriers (right). For example, the lithium used in batteries will be harvested in a cleaner fashion, and ultimately recycled from end-of-life electric vehicles. Hydrogen will be moved globally through green ammonia, and safely deployed into fuel cells to convert into electricity.

Research Themes and Nodes

The projects across the Hub will be grouped into four Themes comprising ‘Storage’-Energy Storage Materials; ‘Transport’ - Energy Transport Materials; ‘Utilisation’ - Energy Utilisation Materials and ‘Impact & Integration’

Figure 2: Integrated plan showing cross-dependencies and interaction across the Hub.
